Welcome

This is the beginning of a slow correspondence. I wanted a small corner of the Internet where I could write down the things that fall out of a book while you're making it—the odd research rabbit holes, the marginal characters and events that keep demanding their own stories, the days when the sentences simply will not come.

If you are here, you are probably waiting for In the Shadow of Achilles to be ready (or your Google search has led you wildly astray).

It is close (well, as close as a process like this can actually be). The manuscript is with a beta reader now, and I'm working through all one-hundred and sixty thousand words myself line editing. This means the shape of the book is fixed, and I'm down to the grain of the prose and the plot holes(I have 33 notes in 58 pages!).

What is interesting about this process is how often I am discovering tiny gaps that need to be plugged, story pieces that are fleshed out later, but without earlier foundation building, might annoy the more studious reader and cause them to rush to Reddit or twitter to "expose" my terrible continuity. I'm certain this will still happen notwithstanding my best efforts of course, honestly I think I would be honoured if someone read my work and cared enough to complain about it.

Though honestly, if even one person outside my family and friends reads this book and enjoys it, I will feel triumphant.

More soonish.
